Liisa Pentti Co Studio
Laivakatu 5K, 4th floor
Helsinki
The first studio showing of the year at Liisa Pentti +Co’s studio is Lemmikki, which premieres at the Villa Rana Cultural Centre in Jyväskylä on 31 January 2026. The working group has been developing the piece during a residency at the studio in January 2026.
Lemmikki is a dance work for warm-handed alter egos who are ready to step out of the dressing room and finally take their place in the front row.
The starting point of the work is the idea that one’s relationship to dance is a lifelong cycle of romances. Recurrent experiences of falling in love, dreaming, vulnerability, anger, and the fear of loss have layered many personalities within a person. By playing with these different characters, the work reflects on disappearance and being seen. Which sides are hidden, and who gets to dance the solo?
Lemmikki dances for strangeness, clumsiness, and naivety. It grows out of a love for dance and an ambivalent relationship to its traditions, inviting us to wander toward greener pastures.
The work includes excerpts from Water Motor (1987) by postmodern dance pioneer Trisha Brown.
