Liisa Pentti is one of the key visionaries of the Finnish dance scene. She has worked intensively in the Finnish dance scene as a dancer, choreographer and teacher since 1987. Her inspiration is in continuously finding new ways to play with movement and create choreography. She is moving in a landscape where dance, performance and theatre are combined, and she is well known to question and explore the limits of performative expression. The art of the performer and her unique presence are the essence in Liisa Pentti’s work, and from that source she creates a recognizable and enchanting ambiance.
Liisa Pentti graduated (BA) from Opleiding Moderne Dans of Theaterschool in Amsterdam (School for New Dance Development, SNDO) in 1986 and she received her MA in Dance from the Theatre Academy Helsinki in 2010. Liisa Pentti is one of the core creators of Zodiak – Center for New Dance and worked as Zodiak’s house-choreographer in 2007–2009. She is also one of the founders of Side Step Festival which she curated with her colleagues in 1996–2009. Liisa Pentti acted as Artistic Director of Full Moon Dance Festival in 2013. In 2019, Liisa Pentti received the Finnish National Award for Dance.
