Choreographer and artistic director Liisa Pentti leads a two-day movement workshop 13.-14.11. at Liisa Pentti +Co Studio at Bulevardi, Helsinki.

The workshop is based on the following questions: can we create movement that does not submit to the meanings of language and cultural images but trusts its own existence? How does the bodily knowledge in the borders of consciousness create new meanings? What is the relationship between language and meaning? How do we dance to music and how does the dancing language position itself inside music?

The rawness of our body holds a vast amount of kinesthetic information, experience and learned patterns. It also holds the elusive and indescribable self, constantly changing and transforming. The workshop will concentrate on these themes and the kinesthetic shapes arising from them. We will work with questions and states that arise from the movement creation process.

Liisa Pentti has worked extensively with meanings that combine dance and language. She has used spoken and written text in many of her works, amongst others the Cloudbody series (2019-20) Hauraat silmät – Fragile eyes (2019), Why Does My Sister Not Like Contemporary Art (2014) and Mabel – The Queen of Bones (2008).

The workshop is open to dance and theatre professionals and students as well as everyone interested in the possibilities of movement.

Hinnat:
6 viikon kurssi (1 aamutunti/viikko, yht. 9 h): 78 €
Kaksi 6 viikon kurssia (2 aamutuntia/viikko, yht. 18 h): 140 €
Kolme 6 viikon kurssia (3 aamutuntia/viikko, yht. 27 h): 210 €
Kertamaksu (90 min): 15 €
Ilmoittautumiset 1.11. mennessä osoitteeseen info@liisapentti.com.

Maanantaisin klo 10-11.30: Aamubaletti
Ohjaaja: Pinja Poropudas. Pinja on valmistunut tanssitaiteen maisteriksi vuonna 2018 Teatterikorkeakoulusta ja toimii tällä hetkellä freelance-tanssijana.

Keskiviikkoisin klo 10-11.30: Aamutunti
Liisa Pentin ohjaamalla aamutunnilla keskitytään erilaisten somaattisten menetelmien (mm.

Perjantaisin klo 10-11.30: Tanssia musiikkiin
Liisa Pentin ohjaama tanssitunti antaa mahdollisuuden tunnin mittaiselle tanssille musiikkiin.

You are warmly invited to Helsinki Central Library Oodi on 1st November to an afternoon of contemporary dance. In the event, organised by dance group Liisa Pentti +Co, you will have the chance to see contemporary dance and participate in a movement workshop led by choreographer Liisa Pentti.

The workshop starts at 1 pm and is open to all levels and ages. No prior knowledge or experience of dance is required. In the workshop, you can try out contemporary movement language as well as different exercises and practices used in the dance work Ref2020. At 2.15 pm the dance company Liisa Pentti +Co will show excerpts of their new premiere work Ref2020. After the performance there will be an open audience discussion.

Ref2020 is a contemporary dance work by Liisa Pentti +Co that is performed at Liisa Pentti +Co Studio in Helsinki 14.10.-29.11.2020.

The inspiration for the work Ref2020 has been Brian Eno’s 58-minute-long composition Reflection. The work, created with six dancers, suggests a new kind of connection between contemporary dance and Eno’s music where the meditative music creates singing and historicity of movement. The music and dance create a landscape inside which the viewer can allow him/herself to experience floating, timelessness and dreams that occasionally remind us about a past that perhaps never was.

The inspiration for the work Ref2020 has been Brian Eno’s 58-minute-long composition Reflection. The work, created with six dancers, suggests a new kind of connection between contemporary dance and Eno’s music where the meditative music creates singing and historicity of movement.

In every moment and continually, the dancers modify their movement paths with microscopic precision by observing the dialogue between movement and mind and by making constant choices about space and timing. The rich and unpredictable movement language acts at times as a counterpoint to the soundscape and sometimes independently, without a primary relationship to the music.

Ref2020 is a light work in dark times. The music and dance create a landscape inside which the viewer can allow him/herself to experience floating, timelessness and dreams that occasionally remind us about a past that perhaps never was.

Liisa Pentti +Co Studio is located at Bulevardi 31, in a former chemistry lab of the Helsinki University of Technology, built in 1899. This is the setting for the work where both the shared and the private becomes apparent through the alchemistic metamorphoses born in the dancers and in the space.

Cloudbody – an ecology of dreams #2 is the second part of Liisa Pentti‘s solo work series, continuing the exploration initiated in The Body (2017) about meanings of the body, signifying and bodily metamorphoses. Cloudbody is a dialogue that happens in the space between the poetic body and the viewers as well as a corporeal practice. Through dance, sound and videos the work shows us images of identity transformations, layers and recollections, life after death. Images of blind stories and things that cannot be named that arise in the moment of disintegration. Images of the space that is born when the world stops.

Unfortunately this workshop is cancelled due to the COVID-19 situation at the moment. We are looking to reschedule the workshop as soon as possible when it is safe to do so.

Liisa Pentti workshop 3.-4.4.

Choreographer and artistic director Liisa Pentti leads a two-day movement workshop 3.-4.4. at Liisa Pentti +Co Studio in Helsinki.

Liisa Pentti ohjaa kahden päivän työpajan 3.-4.4. Liisa Pentti +Co:n studiolla Punavuoressa.

Fragile Eyes – Hauraat silmät (2019), Why Does My Sister Not Like Contemporary Art (2014) ja Mabel – The Queen of Bones (2008).

Kurssi sopii tanssin, teatterin ja esitystaiteen ammattilaisille, opiskelijoille, edistyneille harrastajille sekä kaikille liikkeen mahdollisuuksista kiinnostuneille.

Aika: Perjantai 3.4. klo 17.30-20 ja lauantai 4.4. klo 10-14
Paikka: Liisa Pentti +Co:n studio, Bulevardi 31, 00180 Helsinki.
Ohjaaja: Liisa Pentti
