Choreographer and artistic director Liisa Pentti leads a two-day movement workshop 13.-14.11. at Liisa Pentti +Co Studio at Bulevardi, Helsinki.
The workshop is based on the following questions: can we create movement that does not submit to the meanings of language and cultural images but trusts its own existence? How does the bodily knowledge in the borders of consciousness create new meanings? What is the relationship between language and meaning? How do we dance to music and how does the dancing language position itself inside music?
The rawness of our body holds a vast amount of kinesthetic information, experience and learned patterns. It also holds the elusive and indescribable self, constantly changing and transforming. The workshop will concentrate on these themes and the kinesthetic shapes arising from them. We will work with questions and states that arise from the movement creation process.
Liisa Pentti has worked extensively with meanings that combine dance and language. She has used spoken and written text in many of her works, amongst others the Cloudbody series (2019-20) Hauraat silmät – Fragile eyes (2019), Why Does My Sister Not Like Contemporary Art (2014) and Mabel – The Queen of Bones (2008).
The workshop is open to dance and theatre professionals and students as well as everyone interested in the possibilities of movement.
